I'm officially registered for college classes.  My grant has been approved and accepted by the school.  Tuition is paid, and I have money for books.

For the first time in nearly six years.  ^^;

Classes start on January 12th, 2010.  I'm taking three classes to start with, see how well I can handle those before I lump anymore onto my plate.

The classes themselves?

1. French I - Tuesday and Thursday 6:00pm-7:55pm.
2. Composition I - Wednesday 6:00pm-8:55pm
3. History of Music: Rock - Friday 6:00pm-8:55pm

You'll notice that I'm taking all evening classes.  ^^ I'm not a morning person. Or an afternoon person, for that matter.  I am at my most awake, alert and enthusiastic in the eveningtime... and the key to my being successful this time around will be keeping my focus.  I am setting up a meeting with a counselor so I can see about changing my major from Liberal Arts to Pre-Law, or even see about getting my Paralegal certification.  There's a possibility that I might take some art classes at some point, but ... I don't know about that.  I miss painting a lot, but if I took it up again... I'd have nowhere to go where I could do my painting.

I'm excited about the History of Music class.  I think that one will be a lot of fun. I took 'Understanding Music' the first time I did the whole college thing, and it was the most valuable class I've ever taken.  I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class more or learned quite as much from any other class.  French shouldn't be all that hard, as I studied it from the time I was in kindergarten until I was a sophomore in high school.  I need a foreign language credit and I didn't feel like taking Italian, Spanish or German.  I'll do what I know, that way I can be assured the classwork won't get the best of me.  I wanted to take Creative Writing, but I'm told that I need to take Comp I and Comp II before I can enter that class.  So, that's what I'm doing.

I'm actually getting my shit together.  The apocalypse just might be nigh. ^^;

... Now it's time to rest.

Or not. ^^ I've got a few things going at the moment, but nothing in the meantime.  I've got a few fandomy projects running, like my modship in the glorious [info]dethepisode and my participation in [info]hearts_and_guts.  I suggest you guys sign up for H&G, as it really is fantastic!! I had so much fun participating last year, and I STILL like what I wrote for my submission. ^^ That's saying something, it's hard for me to look at something I wrote months later and not want to gouge my own eyes out with a spork.

While my Dethpanel at Youmacon was cancelled at the last minute, I still had a motherfuckin' blast with [info]2ndfastest by my side.  I was so happy to have her here with me and we had an intense amount of fun, and I hope that she'll come back next year! Or sooner. ;)  There were a few Dethklok cosplayers that I managed to corner with my camera, and their pictures are behind the cut.  The Nathan in particular ... wowee. ^^

Dethcosplay! )

And one more thing...

FREE AL.

That is all.

Last night's concert was ... was ... AWESOME.

I was completely and utterly blown away by The Mars Volta and their energy.  Seeing Cedric singng his heart out while dancing like a man possessed while Omar shredded licks that I'm positive bended time and space just a LITTLE was a powerful experience.  Not to mention the drumming of one Thomas Pridgeon, who shook my bones every time he hit the bass drum.

When I have more energy, I'll talk about the show a bit more. Post the set list, that sort of thing.  For now, though, I'll share my little nugget of joy and then slink back under the covers.

I got my hands on one of Omar's guitar picks.  ^__________________________________^

And what a beautiful thing it is! I'll post pictures of it in the near future. For now, it's safely tucked away until I can find a good place to display it.

What band are you dying to see live in concert that you've never seen before? Would you travel to a different city or state just to see them?

Muse. I'm dying to see their live show... and hells yeah, I would travel just about anywhere to see them if I had the money.

I'd like to see Masami Okui do a solo concert live as well. I did manage to get to see her in concert, but performing with the lads of JAM Project. I went to Baltimore for that show, and it's etched into my brain as one of the single greatest experiences of my life. ^^;

Or non-report, as it turns out.  Last night, we arrived at the venue only to be told that Mono's van had broken down in Canada and that they wouldn't be playing.  Masarati (which isn't a noise rock band or Japanese, but whatever) was still playing, and we could go see them and still turn our tickets in for a refund at the point of purchase on Monday.  At least we're getting our money back.  We stuck around for Masarati, which was worth it.  Some very talented people play in that band.  There were two more bands after them, but none of us really wanted to stay to see the "Cheap Girls" and the "Screaming Females".

We went to the Rock'n'Roll loft instead, and had a big send off party for my friend Mike.  Mike got an oppertunity to play drums for a band while they toured Spain for 10 days... and his plane left this morning at 10am.  I'm so happy for him!! He is an amazing drummer and the fact he's going to showcase his mad skillz in Europe just makes me wiggle with glee.  He promised to send all of us post cards, and I hope he remembers.  I don't have a postcard from Spain, or a Spanish stamp. *collects both international stamps and postcards* Our job was to keep him awake until his plane left, that way he could be sure to get a good sleep on the plane and be well rested when he arrives in Spain.  We did our job, and did it well.  ^^

The month of October is going to be one whirlwind of a ride.

Saturday, October 3rd 2009 - Mono and Masarati.  Both are Japanese noise/rock bands ... I'm going more to chat up the hot chick that plays bass for Mono than I am for their music. XD

Wednesday, October 14th 2009 - The Mars Volta.  I am so excited about going to see this band ... I think that I just might explode.  I start flailing and babbling like an idiot whenever I think about it.  I cannot fucking wait to see this band in concert!!

Wednesday, October 21st 2009 - Dethklok and Mastodon.  Exactly a week after my mind has been blown by The Mars Volta, Brendon Small and Mastodon come rolling into town to have raeptiemz with my ears.  It will be brutal. It will be awesome.  I am considering wearing corpse paint.

Thursday, October 29th 2009 - [info]2ndfastest arrives for Youmacon. And Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be spent at said con being a silly fangirl and putting on the Dethpanel with my friend Bekki.  I might go and see a band called Disrhythmia on Saturday night as well. All depends on what's going on and who else is goin'. XD

Yeah. It's gonna be a good month.

I've been waiting all year for this album, and the tantalizing single we got from it in August nearly sent me into overdrive.  For the first time in three years, on September 15th, 2009, Muse released a new studio album!  Rumors about the album have been floating around for ages, and the fact it's been so long since their last one... everybody was expecting a masterpiece.  Well, in my opinion, it is a masterpiece... in some ways, but not in the ways one would expect from this band.  It is a great album, downright beautiful, but I know they could've done better.

I'm not a fan of their first album ("Showbiz").  I think I only like one or two of the songs off it.  Otherwise, I don't skip songs on their albums.  This album has one song that I'll never listen to and one that I'll skip unless I'm in juuuust the right mood.  Not good.  I shouldn't wanna leave ANY songs out, especially in an album that's so compact.

Alright, track-by-track breakdown.

Cut because I know nobody gives a shit! )

There's been a lot going on here lately, but believe it or not I still work on writing a little bit every day.  Most of my focus at the moment is on stories relating to an RP I'm doing with someone, and as a result... their content wouldn't make sense to anyone outside the RP. I doubt I'll post them here, but one or two might find their way here because I rather like some of the writing.  ^^; More than anything, I'm writing songs.  I've been bitten by the bug and have written a ton of lyrics in the last few weeks.  Those I'm definitely considering posting... that is, if anyone is interested in reading them.

My friend with the bad back has finally gotten some relief.  His unemployment went through, he's gotten his med-can card, and we're now working on getting him to a specialist so he can get started on building his workers compensation claim.  It's taken nearly 3 months to get to this point, but at least he's finally there.  It's been a long, hard road for him.  Now that he's being properly medicated, he's made great progress in other areas too.  I'm still helping him in any way I can, but at the moment there really isn't much to be done.  Most of the paperwork is out of the way, now it's just the waiting game.

I'm still working on getting back into school.  Because of some paperwork problems, I'm not attending school until winter term.  I'm a little miffed about the setback, but I'm going back and that's all that really matters.  I have to take English and Math placement exams, and the delay in my return to school will give me time to brush up on my math.  I'm terrible at it. I'm guessing they'll put me in the most remedial class they offer.  I'm completely hopeless with numbers. =.=

In other news, my mother informed me that yesterday morning my uncle (her brother) had a heart attack and was seriously ill and in the hospital.  Before I could stop myself, I blurted out "GOOD!!".  I know this makes me a horrible, insensitive person... but I've been very angry with him for quite awhile now.  I don't have the energy to explain exactly why I'm so pissed off with him, but just know that he's done (and NOT done) some things that have placed undue burden and guilt on my poor mother.  He's an asshole.  A greedy asshole.  I was actually in the process of writing him a letter telling him how I feel and why I feel that way... planning on dropping it off at his cozy mansion in the dead of night.  His being struck with this heart attack made me think, though.  Strange as it may seem, I fully believe that karma or the universe or the Powers That Be had a hand in it.  And this said to me that I shouldn't trouble myself with my uncle's misdeeds, the universe has a far better handle on things than I do and perhaps I should focus my energy and time on things that aren't bitterness, resentment and hatred.  I know that sounds nuts, but that's just how I see it.  My mother is beside herself and very worried, which is understandable.  He IS her brother, after all.

I didn't end up going to Chicago for the The Mars Volta concert earlier this month, I was upset because I didn't think I'd get to see them play. However! They added a stop in Detroit!!!! And the best part about it ....? It's exactly a week before the Dethklok concert.  Dethklok and The Mars Volta in the span of a week? I might just explode for the joygasm. And a little more than a week after the Dethklok show, Youmacon kicks in and I'll be spending the weekend with the always awesome [info]2ndfastest.  I'm counting down the days!!!!

Also... early in 2010, I'll be making a roadtrip down to Texas.  It won't be a long roadtrip, but what I'm bringing back with me is what's really important... and I'm not gonna have to send it back.  I'll go over the details later, right now... I need to pass out. I've been up for almost 24 hours and I'm almost falling asleep at my computer.

A little more than a week ago, I had the pleasure of having the always lovely [info]otherhazards as a guest.  She was on her way to MA and was kind enough to stop by Michigan for an evening so we could laugh and giggle and be silly in general.  She was only able to stay one night, and I was kinda bummed at first ... but it's actually good she went when she did.

The day after she left, I found these branches in the middle of the driveway... exactly where she'd parked her van.  They would've, in a nutshell, FUCKED the van up ROYALLY.  They were too heavy to pick up, and too big to put in the 'yard waste' bin, so I just dragged them to the side of the driveway and am planning on leaving them there.

Have a look! )

I am still writing, and since this is technically my writing/art journal I figured I'd better talk about what I'm working on. XD

It's all Dethklok-types, and I've actually done work on one or two of these over the last few days.  It's coming slow, but it IS coming ... which is better than nothing, after all.

1. Tremulant - This is a 3 chapter story about Charlie that I'm workin' on.  I want to finish all three chapters before I post it. ^^ I've gotten the first chapter done and am about halfway through the second.  As with all of my work as of late, it's a songfic.

2. The Bedlam in Goliath - I've been working on this one for close to 10 months... I had to set it down for awhile, but lately my Sickles itch has flared up and I'm hoping to have some nice and twisted 'cest before too long.  This fic is 12 chapters, but I'll be posting them as I finish them.

3.  "Ungrateful Dead" - This is a sequel to "One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong" ... the Charles/Pickles fic I wrote back in February.  I wanna write something where they get together. XD Charles/Pickles isn't exactly my OTP, but I kinda like it. :3 I prefer to see Pickles paired with Nathan... *silly giggle*

4.  Octahedron - STFU. I know. I need to stop using The Mars Volta for inspiration. >.> Yes, I'm writing a fic to this album too.  A story about Skwisgaar and Toki with plenty of mind-fuckery and a glimpse into Toki's damaged psyche.  Plus lots of hot sex.

In life news, I have some good stuff to report.

I'M GOING BACK TO SCHOOL THIS FALL!!!

I haven't set foot in a college class since 2005. I ran out of scholarship money, and I still needed to include my parents' income on my FAFSA app at that point, but now... I don't have to.  And the government is giving me enough money to return to Community College in STYLE.  I'm going to continue working on my Liberal Arts degree, that is until I decide what I really want to do.  My original plan was to get an associates degree and transfer to a 4-year university to study journalism. Since the type of journalism I want to do doesn't really exist anymore, I need to rethink my plans.  Maybe doing something with law... a paralegal, perhaps? Or graphic design. I love that stuff! I have some time to think about it, though. And I'm going to.

I'm also traveling to Chicago next month to see ... The Mars Volta (STFU SERIOUSLY XD) in concert.  They're skipping Michigan, and Chicago is the closest venue ... so me and three other friends are making the trip.  We'll probably spend a night at a hotel, as driving home after the concert might be a bit much to ask.  I'm extremely excited about this.

Other than that... not much is going on. ^^

I've met both Rocko AND Cuban. They're nice guys ... and as I see now, EXTREMELY well endowed. XD

I'm attending Youmacon this fall, as many of you may know.  I noticed there's a karaoke contest... and I couldn't resist entering. ^^ So, for your listening pleasure (horror?), I present to you my audition.  The song is 'Moon Revenge', which appeared in the Sailor Moon R movie. ^^ It's probably my favorite anime song of all time, and that's saying something. I've sung it in competitions before... I can pull it off well live.

I'm probably not gonna make the cut, but I HAD to try! ^^ HAD TO!

8-year-old self: Don't worry so much about it. Life is unfair, yes, but it'll work out. Hang in there.

14-year-old self: She's baaaaaad for you, bad bad BAAAAAD for you... run away while you still can.

I wanted a picture of myself in the Rock'n'Roll Loft. I chose a bad time to take a picture, I was hot ... sweaty ... slightly inebriated and looking like something the cat dragged in, savaged and then threw up on the rug hours later. Not to mention my facial expression and I didn't even get the part of the room I wanted in the shot. What I got in the background instead, however, is something I can't look at without laughing my ass off.

Curious?  )

I realize I have little right to complain, as many of you on the f-list are in places where there's been much hotter weather than what I'm dealing with and for longer than just a day, but dammit... I'm drenched in sweat and I can't sit around in my underwear until after dark.  It's the double whammy of heat and humidity that's killing me. Heat on it's own can be dealt with, but not when it's humid as BALLS.  Fuck that shit. Yessir.

My friend Mike had a birthday party yesterday down at the Rock'n'Roll Loft.  I took my camera and snapped a ton of pictures of the place... but it seems I left the USB cable at someone else's house.  Within a few days I'll have it back and lots of pictures to show you guys.  It was a pretty good party, lasting until.... well, actually, it's probably still going on.  We left at about 6am. We wouldn't have if it were up to the fella who drove me down there, but dammit... I was ready to fall over dead, and after witnessing the molestation/tagging with a marker of another party guest who dared to fall asleep ... I was not keen on sleeping there.

I brought two Angel Food cakes, a shitload of sugared strawberries and a tub of Cool Whip for the birthday boy and his hungry guests.  Went over well, I'm pleased to say.  I was able to feed 20 people with that!  Mike is a wonderful guy and I wanted to do something nice for him.

The boys had set up all their equipment and they played around on their instruments for awhile.  There was a little bit of drama surrounding this, one of the bands that wanted to play couldn't play because their guitarist was too drunk.  Now, why or how you can be pissed at someone for drinking at a party being held in their own home is beyond me... but there's more to it than that.  As good as last night was, there was probably an equal amount of ugliness to go along with it. Not a good ratio.

I have hope for the future, though! I can tell good things are on their way.

PS: Totally going to the Dethklok concert on October 21st.  WHO ELSE IS COMIN' WITH ME!? :D

"Aunque me dejaste ahogado en el mar,
Acuestate en la tierra de la realidad de tu sueƱo,

Manos me recuerdo solamente a ti te odio yo ya me voy!"

You said it, Cedric. You said it nine times.

I've been getting lots of inquiries as to how things are going over here, but unfortunately for the moment I have nothing new and exciting to report.  We're playing the waiting game, as one often does when dealing with the government.  My buddy's spirits have been up! He has hope for the future, and that's all I could really ask for.  He's frustrated because there's nothing we can do but sit and wait at the moment, but he at least knows that the waiting will be worth it in the end.

I hope. =.=

I'm going to take a moment to talk about the Rock'n'Roll Loft.  A friend of mine found the place on Craigslist and moved in there about a month ago, he's got an insane amount of space to work with and pays barely anything in terms of rent.  Soon, other friends signed up for spaces in this giant building... so now, it's pretty much populated with a group of musicians who are also best friends.  There are a few other residents in the place, but all of them are cool with the idea of the guys jamming out at 4am.  In fact, they'd love to come and jam WITH them.

Describing this place with words is kinda difficult. It has to be seen to be believed. There is SO MUCH space!  My friend Al moved into an upstairs unit last weekend and his place has a total of 14 couches in it... but it looks sparsely furnished and nearly empty. Almost all of those couches turn into hide-a-beds, too.  The owner/renovator of the building is a bit of a pack-rat, and when he finds decent furniture he brings it back and puts it in his empty lofts.  I found out Al and his roomie Vinnie actually had to REMOVE a shitload of furniture in order to be able to move around.

Other weird factoids about this place:

1) In each loft, there is a giant painting or mural of naked chicks. Allegedly done by a previous resident, who was an artsy-fartsy type.
2) A successful gay porn studio is located on the ground floor.  I've been in the place, lots of different "sets" to work with... and soundproofing up the wazoo. Literally.
3) Large parts of the place used to be an eyeglass factory, there are leftover posters from designer frame manufacturers and old discarded lenses laying around everywhere. Not to mention other large eyeglass-making equipment.
4) There are hidden passages and concealed staircases all over the place.  So much so that it's ... a little unnerving, actually.
5) Ancient, out-of-tune pianos are also scattered around everywhere.

And those are just thew things that spring to mind immediately.  There's lots more weird shit like that goin' on at the Rock'n'Roll Loft.  The next time I'm down there, I'm going to attempt to take some pictures. This place has to be seen to be believed.  Even after you see it, you might not believe it. I still have trouble, and I've slept there several times.

Good Things are on the horizon, there.  Everyone feels it.  I'm glad to be a part of the madness. XD 'Cuz when you boil it all down, it really is madness. But a beautiful madness.

I'm off! To do what,  I don't know. Maybe write. Yeah. I'll try that out for awhile.
